We all want to live joyful lives, but sometimes we get dragged down by problems in our lives.
Even so, Dr. Joyce Meyer says feeling joyful is within our own power and the power of our words.
“If you’re not enjoying your life, the best thing you can do is think about what you’ve been talking about,” she recently wrote in a column for the Christian Post. Words are powerful, she contends.
She cites Proverbs 18:21: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].”
Dr. Meyer says the first step, then, is to examine what you say.
Here are three ways Dr. Meyer said you can find more joy in life through your own words
- Talk less about what’s wrong. “One of the ways we can instantly increase our joy is to stop talking about all of our problems,” she wrote. Instead pray and then use faith-filled words that show you believe God is helping you.
- Use your words to encourage others. “If you give others joy with your words, you will increase your own joy,” she wrote.
- Be thankful and say it. “One thing I’ve learned is when we’re waiting for a breakthrough, we need to thank Him for working on that situation behind the scenes,” Dr. Meyer wrote.
